What impresses me most about The Wacky Chemistry Lab is the restraint in its approach. It would be easy to make a book like this feel gimmicky — slap some comics on chemistry content and call it educational. But Doris Walton has done something more considered here. The narrative arc of the comics actually serves the learning, each story building on the last to reinforce concepts rather than just illustrate them.
The periodic table coverage in particular is excellent — accessible without being reductive. My 10-year-old read it independently and came away with a solid foundational understanding of elements and reactions that surprised both his teacher and me.

I saw someone post about this a few weeks ago and finally grabbed it for my 9-year-old and oh my goodness. She read half of it in one sitting. HALF. My kid who has to be bribed to do her science homework.
The characters are so funny and the way it explains reactions and elements just makes so much sense visually. She's been drawing the characters in her notebook at school apparently.
